Pest Control and Exterminator Service in Charlestown Township, PA

Farm fields that became estate lots bring a particular set of pests, and that is the story in Charlestown Township. No Bugs Exterminator provides pest control in Charlestown Township, PA, from our family business in Media, about 35 minutes (19 miles) away. With a median build year of 2000 and only 9 percent of homes rented, per Census (ACS) estimates, most of our work here is for owners of newer houses that border hayfields, hedgerows and stream corridors rather than other houses.

New homes on old Great Valley farmland

When fields are cut for construction, the voles, field mice and ground-nesting wasps that lived there move to the nearest shelter: new garages, window wells and basement egress pits. Hedgerows and wood lots carry deer and the blacklegged ticks that ride on them.

Newer does not mean termite-proof. Wood debris buried during grading and mulch heaped against fresh foundations can attract subterranean termites within a few years.

Most of the township's houses went up from the 1990s into the 2010s: large colonials and farmhouse-style homes on one- to five-acre lots, with poured basements, egress window wells, sump pits and irrigated landscaping. A house built around 2000 has usually outlived the soil treatment its builder applied, and owners rarely think to check until swarmers appear in a finished basement.

Charlestown village and the township's back roads keep a number of older stone farmhouses and bank barns, with fieldstone cellars and log or timber sills that give mice and termites far more openings than the new construction around them.

Pickering Creek and its tributaries run through wooded hollows between neighborhoods, and stormwater basins sit at the low corner of most subdivisions. Both stay wet for days after summer storms, giving mosquitoes breeding water close to patios. Large, unshaded walls on newer homes heat up in September, drawing brown marmorated stink bugs, while tree-of-heaven along field edges hosts spotted lanternflies under PDA's quarantine.

Reaching Charlestown by Route 252 and Route 29

We drive up Route 252 toward Paoli, cross the Great Valley and take Route 29 north into the township. Thom and his team walk the house, yard edges and any barns during a free inspection, and you get a written quote.

Charlestown Park, Pickering Creek and the Great Valley

Charlestown Township sits north of the Great Valley, with Charlestown Park and Pickering Creek running toward Phoenixville. East Whiteland Township borders it to the south. Route 29 crosses the township from the Great Valley toward Phoenixville, passing the village of Devault, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike cuts across the southern part of Charlestown. Large tracts of farmland and woods remain open between neighborhoods, so fields and hedgerows sit behind many lots. Charlestown students attend Great Valley schools; Act 35 of 2002 requires those buildings to keep an IPM plan and post notices before treatments. Given that mix, the calls we expect in Charlestown are mostly about the outdoor edge: tick and mosquito work for estate lots, termite inspections on houses reaching the twenty-year mark, rodent sealing in garages and barns beside fields, ground wasp nests in lawns, and stink bug prevention in early fall.

Questions from Charlestown Township homeowners

Why does my new Charlestown house have so many mice?

Because the neighbors were there first. Field mice lived in the surrounding farmland, and new construction gives them warm garages, unsealed utility openings and window wells. Sealing gaps around pipes, garage door corners and dryer vents in late summer, before cold weather, prevents most problems. Our mouse control page explains the steps.

Is a tick treatment worth it on a Charlestown estate lot?

For many owners, yes. Pennsylvania reports some of the highest Lyme disease counts in the country, and hedgerows and wooded margins on large lots are prime tick habitat. Treating the lawn border in spring and early summer, plus keeping grass short, lowers the risk. Seek medical care for any rash after a bite.
