Pest Control and Exterminator Service in Ridley Park, PA

Ridley Park was planned around a lake, and well over a century later that lake still shapes the borough's summers. From our Media office, Ridley Park is roughly 6 miles, about a 15-minute drive, and No Bugs Exterminator serves the whole borough. The borough began as a Victorian railroad suburb, so porched homes from that era mix with mid-century twins; Census (ACS) estimates put the median at 1955, and about 36% of households rent.

Ridley Park Lake, Shade Trees and Railroad-Era Houses

Ridley Park Lake and the stream feeding it keep the low end of town humid, with shaded shoreline and storm drains that hold water after rain. Mosquitoes breed there and in backyard containers, then rest in hedges and under porches. Big shade trees on the older streets add damp leaf litter where ticks and centipedes thrive.

Victorian houses near the station have stone foundations, deep porches and roomy attics with plenty of gaps, while mid-century twins add shared walls. Mice use both. The rail line is a long strip of cover for rodents, and with about a third of homes rented, turnover brings occasional bed bugs.

Mature trees on the older streets drop seeds, leaves and branches onto slate and shingle roofs, and gutters that overflow keep porch columns and fascia wet enough for carpenter ants and wood rot. Many yards back onto a wooded strip, a detached garage or the rail embankment, all places where yellow jackets dig ground nests in late summer.

Chester Pike's commercial frontage adds dumpsters and food waste, which keeps Norway rats active on the blocks nearest the businesses.

Ridley Park's Lake, Rail Station and Neighbors

Ridley Park Lake sits at the heart of the borough, and SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Line stops at Ridley Park station. Students attend the Ridley School District. The borough is surrounded largely by Ridley Township, with Prospect Park and Rutledge close by. The station puts riders on the same Wilmington/Newark Line that runs to Chester, Wilmington and Center City, and the brushy edges of that right-of-way shelter mice through the middle of town. Boeing's rotorcraft plant, usually known by the Ridley Park name, sits just outside the borough in Ridley Township near the river and I-95. Because Ridley Park is a self-governing borough wrapped by the township, permits, trash pickup and storm-drain questions go to borough hall, even when a neighbor a few streets over answers to the township. The lake park's wooded banks are where mosquito and tick questions start each June.

Questions from Ridley Park homeowners

Does living near Ridley Park Lake mean more mosquitoes?

It can, especially on calm, humid evenings. The lake's still edges, its feeder stream and nearby storm drains hold water, and shaded yards give adults places to rest. Most backyard biting still comes from water within a short flight, so we treat resting areas, clear breeding spots on your lot and show you what to check after rain.

How do mice get into a Victorian house near the station?

Usually low and high: at the stone foundation where mortar has crumbled, and at the roofline where porch roofs meet the main wall. Once inside, they follow plumbing chases between floors. We find both ends during a free inspection, close them up and set traps where droppings show activity.

Can bed bugs come from the other half of my twin?

It happens, though bringing them home from travel or used furniture is more common. Bed bugs can crawl through gaps in a shared wall and along pipes. If you notice bites in rows, small blood spots on sheets or dark specks on mattress seams, call for an inspection before treating anything yourself.
