Pest Control and Exterminator Service in Chester, PA

Sixty percent of households in Chester rent their homes, by Census (ACS) estimates, and that one figure shapes most pest problems in the city. No Bugs Exterminator serves Chester homeowners, tenants, landlords and businesses, about 15 minutes (roughly 7 miles) from our Media office. With a 1949 median build year and blocks of attached brick rowhomes running from the Delaware River up past Widener University, a mouse, cockroach or bed bug problem rarely stays at one address.

Attached Rowhomes, Rentals and the Delaware River Waterfront

Rowhome blocks share party walls, old cellars and utility chases that connect one unit to the next. German cockroaches and mice use those routes, so when one house treats and the neighbors do not, pests return through the walls. Rental turnover adds bed bugs carried in on furniture.

The Delaware River, Chester Creek and the industrial land along Route 291 give Norway rats burrowing ground and water, and summer rain leaves standing water in yards and vacant lots that breeds mosquitoes. Busy sites near Subaru Park and Harrah's add food waste and deliveries.

Most of Chester's rowhomes went up from the late 1800s through the 1940s for shipyard and mill workers, and many now have flat roofs, shared rear alleys and cellars with old coal and pipe openings. Vacant houses on some blocks matter too: an empty rowhome with no heat and broken windows becomes a rodent and roach reservoir that presses on the occupied units beside it.

Termites add slow damage. Chester sits in southeastern Pennsylvania's moderate-to-heavy subterranean termite zone, and wood porch floors and back-stair framing set on soil in tight rear yards give swarms a starting point each spring.

Widener, Subaru Park, Chester Creek and the Commodore Barry Bridge

Chester is Delaware County's only city and the oldest city in Pennsylvania. Widener University, Subaru Park, Harrah's, the Commodore Barry Bridge and the Chester Transportation Center are all here, along with a sizable Spanish-speaking community served by our Spanish-language page. Neighboring Chester Township and Upland are separate municipalities with their own pages. Each anchor brings its own pest pressure. Subaru Park game days and the casino at Harrah's draw crowds, concessions and trash that feed rats and flies along the riverfront, while Widener's campus and the student rentals around it turn over every August. The Chester Upland School District's public schools follow Pennsylvania Act 35 of 2002 integrated pest management rules, and the 1724 Chester Courthouse on Market Square is a reminder of how old the city's building stock really is.

Questions from Chester homeowners

Who pays for pest control in a Chester rental, the landlord or the tenant?

It depends on the lease and the cause. Many leases assign routine pests to one side, and since Pugh v. Holmes (1979) Pennsylvania courts have read an implied warranty of habitability into residential leases. In attached rowhomes, infestations often cross units, which points toward a building-wide fix. This is general information, not legal advice.

Why do cockroaches keep coming back in my rowhome?

They're usually living in the connected walls and neighboring units, not just your kitchen. German cockroaches breed fast, and store-bought sprays scatter them deeper into voids. We place baits and growth regulators where they hide, seal gaps around pipes, and check adjoining units when the owner agrees.

Can you treat mosquitoes in a small Chester yard?

Yes. Even a small rowhome yard breeds mosquitoes in buckets, clogged gutters, tarps and tires, and the river keeps summers humid. We remove or treat standing water, treat shaded resting spots on fences and shrubs, and show you what to empty after each rain.
